Students Visit New CTA Headquarters

Real estate students visited the new headquarters of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) to learn about how the green building was financed and leased.

Site visits are planned for students each semester. The visits provide insights into how legal and business issues come together to complete a project.

The Feb. 10 visit to the new building at 567 W. Lake St., had students meeting with three specialists, including Dennis Mondero, a 2001 LLM graduate in real estate law. Mondero,
senior vice president and chief administrative officer at the CTA, shared with the student group his career background, including how he came to his position at the CTA.

Carole Morey, an attorney and vice president of Infrastructure for the CTA, explained the bond financing for the building, and current-day leasing arrangements. The building’s manager, Jim Runnion of Transwestern, gave students information on the building’s sustainable characteristics, including its green roof, the architect’s attention to natural light, and the open floor plan.
