His piece co-authored with Katarina Durcova (JD ‘11) “Waiver of the Attorney – Client Privilege and Work Product Protection: An Unofficial Commentary on New Illinois Rule of Evidence 502 and Illinois Supreme Court Rule 201(p)”, has been accepted for a forthcoming issues of the Southern Illinois University Law Journal.

 

Associate Dean and Professor Kathryn Kennedy

Activities

She has been appointed to a vice chair position on the Employee Benefits Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation. She was appointed to a four-year term by the leadership of the Employee Benefits Committee. In 2016, the final year of her appointment, Kennedy will serve as chair of the committee.

They co-authored the article “Something Rotten in the State of Legal Citation: The Life Span of a United States Supreme Court Citation Containing an Internet Link (1996-2010)” which was published in the Yale Journal of Law and Technology (15 Yale J.L. & Tech. 273).

 

Professor Marc Ginsberg

Activities

He was a guest speaker on July 24, 2013, for the John Marshall Law School Pre-Law Summer Institute.  His talk focused on the law of evidence.

 

Professor Steven Schwinn

Activities

He spoke July 25, 2013, at the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Chicago 2013 Supreme Court Update Institute on “Understanding Shelby County v. Holder,” the Voting Rights Act case.

He addressed the American Constitution Society Chicago Lawyer Chapter’s Tenth Annual Supreme Court Term in Review on June 28, 2013, on Shelby County v. Holder, and Arizona v. Arizona Inter Tribal, the case striking Arizona’s proof-of-citizenship requirement to vote.

He was interviewed for the “Morning Shift” and on the “Afternoon Shift” programs on Chicago Public Radio on June 26, 2013, discussing Supreme Court decisions.

Professor Schwinn also was a guest on CLTV’s “Politics Tonight with Paul Lisnek” program on June 27, 2013, discussing the affirmative action case at the Supreme Court.

 

Professor Mark E. Wojcik

Activities

He will moderate an Aug. 9, 2013, panel “More than an Equal Sign: DOMA, Prop 8, the Supreme Court, and Your Practice,” on same-sex marriage at the American Bar Association’s annual meeting in San Francisco, and will speak on “Libel Tourism in the Internet” at the ABA meeting.

He was appointed a vice chair of the International Committee of the American Bar Association Tort, Trial, and Insurance Practice Section (“TIPS”) for the 2013-14 bar year.  He previously served as chair of that committee during the 2012-13 bar year.

He was also appointed as a member of the TIPS Standing Committee on Law Students for the 2013-14 bar year.  He previously served on the TIPS Section’s Task Force on Outreach to Law Students.

He was re-appointed to the TIPS Section Robert McKay Law Professor Awards Committee for the 2013-14 bar year.  The committee selects outstanding professors in the field of tort law, trial advocacy, and insurance law.

 

Adjunct Professor Sheila Murphy

Activities

She was a speaker at the annual conference of Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) in Washington July 26, 27 and 28. She spoke on restorative justice.
