The American Bar Foundation has named two john Marshall professors as American Bar Foundation Fellows.
Kathryn J. Kennedy, Associate Dean for Advanced Studies & Research and Director of the Center for Tax Law and Employee Benefits, and Professor William B. T. Mock join the ranks of the prestigious group of legal industry leaders.
With their additions, John Marshall boasts seven current and emeritus faculty Fellows, in addition to several alumni. The Fellows is an honorary organization of lawyers, judges and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession.
Membership in The Fellows is limited to less than 1 percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Members are nominated by Fellows in their jurisdiction and elected by the Board of the American Bar Foundation. The Fellows support the research of the Foundation through their annual contributions and sponsor programming of direct relevance to leaders of the legal profession.
Kennedy joined The John Marshall Law School as a full-time faculty member in 1996 after years of private practice. She had practiced with the law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery in Chicago and was an actuary with the consulting firm of Towers Perrin. Kennedy became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1976, two years after graduating from Drake University. She earned her J.D. with honors, Order of the Coif, from Northwestern University School of Law in 1980.
Dean Kennedy was recognized as 2009 ASPPA’s Educator of the Year. She was inducted as a Fellow of The American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and now serves on its Board of Governors. She is the primary faculty advisor for The John Marshall Law Review, and was named associate dean for advanced studies and research in 2007.
Professor Mock joined John Marshall’s faculty in 1983, and has gone on to serve as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Chair of the Faculty Executive Committee and Chair of Strategic Planning. He founded the Center for International & Comparative Studies and its LL.M programs in Comparative Legal Studies and International Business & Trade Law.
Before joining John Marshall, Mock practiced international trade, antitrust, banking and securities law in Washington, D.C., before federal appeals courts and administrative agencies. Subsequently, he served with Baker & McKenzie as one of the world’s first in-house legal educators. He has also served regularly as a securities and commodities arbitrator. He teaches Corporations, Securities, International Trade Law, International Law, International Human Rights Law and International Environmental Law.
He earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1979 and his bachelor of arts from Haverford College in 1973.
