John Marshall second-year student Jessica Ocampo has been named President-Elect of the Hispanic National Bar Association Law Student Division. Ocampo will represent John Marshall on the national board. “I joined the HNBA to be an influential leader for minorities in the legal community, especially Latinos,” Ocampo said. “We are one of the most underrepresented minorities in the profession and my mission is to continuously work to increase our representation.”

Ocampo hopes to provide information to the John Marshall student body about externships, events and various other tools available from the HNBA that may have previously been untapped by students.

Ocampo is interested in civil litigation, particularly issues concerning labor, employment, government and civil rights. During her time in law school, she has worked at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in the Labor & Employment Division and at the Illinois Department of Corrections. In addition to her work experience, she has served as Vice President of John Marshall’s Latino Law Student Association and Vice President of the law school’s Women’s Law Caucus. She is also a student representative of Equal Justice Works, the Chicago Bar Association and Themis Bar Review.
