Attorney and John Marshall Law School alumnus Kevin M. Hull received special recognition at the law school’s June 3, 2012, commencement for his outstanding teaching as an adjunct professor, and dedication to students the past five years.

After graduating in 2000, Kevin Hull worked at the Illinois state capitol as an assistant counsel to Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan. The work proved to be an invaluable experience for his future career endeavors, and was the foundation for the Legislative Drafting class he has been teaching since 2007.

“My students learn the nuts and bolts of the legislative process in a curriculum that immerses them into issues in the municipal, state and federal levels,” he explains. He also takes students on excursions to Springfield, Ill., to meet with John Marshall alumni serving in the Illinois legislature for a discussion on issues taught in his class.

In March 2012, Hull and his fall 2011 class received the Center for Disability & Elder Law’s Impact Award for their assistance to Illinois Senator John Mulroe in proposing changes on property tax notifications for senior citizens. His earlier classes have dealt with issues impacting domestic violence, expungement and sealing of criminal records, municipal budgeting, the rights of veterans, and more.

Outside of the classroom, Adjunct Professor Hull is the executive director of the Westside Institute for Science and Education, a non-profit corporation connected with the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center.

He is the founder of Hull Partners, Ltd., addressing the needs of non-profit organizations, private companies and units of government in legislative advocacy and advancement. He serves as chair of the advisory board for the John Marshall Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic, chair of Military Affairs at the Union League Club of Chicago, and on several veterans advisory councils.

In 2010, Hull was named one of the Law Bulletin Publishing Co.’s “40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch,” and the John Marshall Alumni Association honored him with its President’s Award in 2008 and its Distinguished Service Award in 2012 for his work with the law school.

He earned his undergraduate pre-med degree in zoology at the Miami University in Ohio.
