The John Marshall Law School in Chicago’s excellent educational opportunities and outstanding programs in legal writing and intellectual property law earn top law school rankings for the second year in a row in U.S. News and World Report’s Best Graduate Schools issue.
The John Marshall Law School is again ranked among the top law schools in the country in the 2013 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools. The Chicago law school moved up in the law school rankings for the second year in a row. Two of John Marshall’s programs—legal writing and intellectual property law—also are included in the specialties rankings.
“The continuing improvement in the U.S. News law school rankings recognizes our commitment to preparing practice-ready graduates. John Marshall’s first-class programs, skills-based training and outstanding faculty and adjunct professors all help bring this recognition on the law school,” said Dean John E. Corkery.
John Marshall moved up 11 spots in the annual Best Graduate Schools report.
The law school’s Legal Writing Program solidified its sixth-place ranking. It is one of the most rigorous law research/writing programs in the country, designed to immerse students in the art of legal writing and research over four semesters. “We are proud that so many of our peer institutions see the leadership role we play in the legal writing field. Our national ranking is an additional recognition of the strength of our program and the faculty who teach it,” said Professor Anthony Niedwiecki, director of the writing program.
John Marshall’s Intellectual Property (IP) Law Program is ranked 17th in the nation. The IP Program offers more than 30 specialized IP courses, making it one of the most extensive sets of IP offerings anywhere. The program has partnered with the IP lawyers in the People’s Republic of China for more than 15 years and draws students from across the country and around the world.
William McGrath, acting director of the Center for Intellectual Property Law, said, “The national recognition of our IP program in the current rankings reflects the recognition the program has secured in other quarters. It also is consistent with the depth of John Marshall’s IP course offerings, the new initiatives of our Chinese IP Resource Center, and the academic excellence of our IP faculty.”
